Fab Interiors: D’ Espresso New York

With countless coffee shops abounding everywhere, though each one strive to provide unique service and ambiance, it is inevitable for us to just notice their decor in passing, without really imprinting it in our minds, because let’s face it, most of them tends to look the same day in and day out.

But this one’s different. It simply commands one’s sense to take note and remember. The new D’ Espresso in Madison Avenue in New York sure makes a statement. Hardly surprising with that one-of-a kind, funky decor by NemaWorkshop.

When I first saw the photos, I thought hmm, a library!

NemaWorkshop’s founder Anurag Nema took the idea of a coffee shop that looks like a library – giving a nod to the nearby New York Public Library’s Bryant park branch – and turned it on its side. The walls are not lined with books but the floors and ceiling are. Except that it is all an illusion, a life-size image of books printed on custom tiles. Pendant lighting does not hang from the ceiling; it sticks out from the walls.
